Safer Internet and Mental Health Week

Safer Internet Day 2023 will take place on the 7th of February 2023, with celebrations and learning based around the theme ‘Want to talk about it? Making space for conversations about life online’. We are also linking this with Mental Health Week - as they go hand in hand. I am asking our pupils to design a poster about life online, which links the themes. All entries are to be sent to Mrs Parker by 10th February. Pupil Leaders will help me to decide the winners.

RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch 2023

The RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch is this weekend  27th-29th January.  By taking part in Big Garden Birdwatch you, and hundreds of thousands of other like-minded nature lovers, will be taking action to protect our birds for generations to come. The Big Garden Birdwatch is fun, free and for everyone. And you don’t need a garden to take part! Counting birds from your balcony, or your local park will play a vital role in helping us understand how UK birds are doing.

Forest School Games

Year 1 played lots of new games in forest school this week.  We used our senses to play the owl and mice game and used our dodging skills to play farmer, farmer and wood, wood, fire.

RSPB Big Schools Bird Watch

The Eco Leaders carried out the RSPB Big Schools Bird Watch this morning.  They were all excellent at spotting the birds that are living in and near the school grounds.  We saw Magpies, Carrion crows, Sparrows and Robins.  We even spotted some beautiful Goldfinches eating the seeds from the Alder trees.  Well done everyone you did a fabulous job!

Muslim visitor

Year 1 enjoyed their visit from a Muslim visitor. They learnt all about the Mosque, Allah and Mecca. They enjoyed learning how to say some of the Arabic alphabet and dressing up in the traditional Muslim clothes.

Fabulous bird feeders

The children had a great time in forest school. We talked about different types of birds, what they eat and what they sound like. Then we made two different types of bird feeders, played the sparrow hawk game and enjoyed making soup in the mud kitchen. Well done everyone!

Home Learning for Spring Term 1

Here is the home learning for this half term all based on our topic 'What happened to the dinosaurs?'.

Please upload to Seesaw or send into school anything that you complete. Remember you can earn a gold award for completing 8 pieces of homework, a silver award for 6 and a bronze award for 4.

We cannot wait to see all the things you do!

What happened to the dinosaurs?

This half term, our topic is 'What happened to the dinosaurs?' where we will be learning all about dinosaurs, what they eat, Mary Anning and lots more.

For more information, please see the MTP below.

Building castles

Year 1 loved working in groups to design and build castles. They even tested them to see if they would hold up weights and they were all strong enough that none of them collapsed. Well done everyone!
