Active School Uniform and Policy

Active Uniform

The reasons for this change are:

-          1. No additional PE kit required.

-          2. There will be more teaching time – no need to spend 20minutes getting changed/dressed.

-         3.  Suits our neurodiverse / SEND pupils.

-          4. No issue of pupils not having a kit for PE (and this is an issue). All will be ready for PE.

-          6. No more girl/boy changing issue.

-          7. Saving money for families in the long term.

-          8. Pupils will be comfortable.

-         9.  Pupils will be active at all times.

-         10. Evidence has shown this can improve pupil attainment and outcomes.

-         11. Research has shown this improves pupil’s health and mental wellbeing. A priority for our pupils.

-          12. More space in small classrooms.

Our girls input into research and data through Youth Sport :

85% of girls would like to be more active when they are in school.

The top 3 barriers that stopped girls from being more active at your school were; I worry about how I look (26%), I don't like taking part with boys (24%), and I don't like the PE kit (22%).

When offered the choice, girls were most likely to say that they would prefer Wearing a different school uniform and trainers all day that allows me to be more active in PE and throughout the rest of the day (67%).

The aim of our active uniform is to to reduce costings for families in the long term. However, please check if your local council provides help with the cost of school uniform.

If your council does not offer help, ask your child’s school directly.  https://www.gov.uk/help-school-clothing-costs
