We are also really proud of the Year 5 boys and girls who competed in our school teams for the Football finals this week!  Well done everyone!  Mrs Blomeley

Year 5 Break the Rules Day!

Year 5 enjoyed "breaking the rules" on Friday! They had gone to great lengths to look different in some way!  Own clothes, various hats, different coloured hair and a wonderful array of tattoos were all displayed!  I'm happy to say that no rules were broken within the classroom!  The children were perfectly behaved as always!  A massive thank you to all the parents who went to a lot of trouble to make this day so successful!  Mrs Blomeley

Alan Millea Cup Champions!!

ALAN MILLEA CUP CHAMPIONS!!

Our Year 5 and 6 boys football team did our school proud winning the cup for small schools out of all the schools in Tameside!

The boys had a tough final match against Arlies which they drew 3-3 resulting in the winner being decided on penalties. 3 out of 4 penalties scored and a great save by our keeper made Broadbent Fold the champions!

Every single player on the team played such a vital part in the victory! Well done boys!! You won the double!

Mad Science Visit

Broadbent Fold were lucky to have a visit today from Mad Science today to deliver us an interactive assembly on 'What you should know about H2O' where we learnt all about solids, liquids and gases and how water is the only thing that can change between all three. We also learnt how water gets from the sea to our tap through the water cycle. We had some fantastic volunteers who showed us how water is checked to make sure it is clean enough to drink and the role that engineers and scientists play in this.

Year 5 start their Rounders journey!

Year 5 started their learning journey in Rounders yesterday, by practising their throwing and catching skills.  We finished off the session by playing a game of Danish Long Ball, which the children enjoyed.  It also demonstrated their excellent teamwork skills!  Mrs Blomeley

We have some fantastic cross country runners in Year 5 who set the pace today in our first session!  Welll done Year 5!  Mrs Blomeley

Year 5 Summer Term 1 - Who were the Anglo Saxons?

Welcome back to Summer Term 1, which is a short but busy term!    Our topic is “Who were the Anglo Saxons?” and we have many fun activities planned to explore how this ancient civilisation have influenced our lives today.  Year 5 will love our hands-on activities for Anglo Saxon Day. which wiill include baking in the style of that time, weaving with wool and jewellery making.  Other artistic opportunities include recreating the Bayeux Tapestry when they learn about the Battle of Hastings.

Rainforests Revisited!

Most of Year 5's summaries of our last topic, "Why should the world's Rainforests matter to all of us?", mentioned how they enjoyed how our classroom changed on a daily basis!  In the end, we all felt like we were living in an actual rainforest, just like the characters in our class text, The Explorer!

Maths in Art!

Most classes took part in an Art activity during the recent World Maths Day!  It was a great opportunity to investigate different shapes and the children were inspired by artists such as Paul Klee, Wassily Kandinsky and Piet Mondrian.  Year 4 focussed on M.C. Escher and his infamous tessellations whilst Year 6 included some 3D art into the equation!  Fantastic artwork by everyone!  Mrs Blomeley.
