To commemorate Remembrance Day Year 6 researched the poppy and what different coloured poppies represent. 

We found out that the traditional red poppy is a sign of remembrance and hope and this is because poppies grew in the fields where many battles were fought. The red poppy is connected to the Royal British Legion. The purple poppy is often worn to remember animals that have been victims of war. The black poppy is most commonly associated with the commemoration of black, African and Carribean communities that served in wars. The white poppy is associated with a charity called Peace Pledge Union who say that the white poppy commomerates people who died in conflict but instead of war peace should be the main focus.

Year 6 then created their own poppies and created these wreaths. They look fantastic!
