Year 6 2025-2026 Blog

Our lovely planter

The planter was kindly donated to school by Stalybridge Women's Institute and Mrs Holt came to visit school to see how the flowers in the planter were developing. Mrs Holt was very happy that the Ecoleaders have been looking after planter so well and have planted new bulbs and bedding plants. The Ecoleaders also showed Mrs Holt our vegetable garden and the crocuses flowers that we had planted in the winter. Mrs Holt showed us a bird's nest that she had found in her garden.

Gardening Club

In gardening club we have weeded the beds and planted some carrot and lettuce seeds. We were delighted to find that our apple trees and cherry trees are producing flowers. Fingers crossed we will get lots of fruit in the autumn!

Spooky settings

Today some of year 6 worked in pairs to focus on creating a story setting full of suspense. They have used figurative language to make their writing full of atmosphere. Can you spot any personification? Can you see similes and metaphors? Can you find any hyperbole or symbolism?

These are all incredible- well done Year 6!

Superstars in Y6

Well done to our superstars Lexi and Nathan who were awarded with the Headteacher's award today in Year 6.

Lexi is really impressing us in all of her lessons. She is enthusiastic and tries hard every day!

Nathan is becoming a master at using the laptop for his writing. His character description of Skellig was outstanding this week.

Our Good to be Green winners are Amelia and Matilda.

Well done to all of those who have achieved their Gold Award this week too.

Reading Ambassador Meeting

Thank you to our Reading Ambassadors for attending their meeting with Jo Merrifield from Tameside Libraries this week. They shared their fabulous poetry display which they have created in the KS2 Library. We then looked at genres of text and how we can inspire children to trial reading a new genre. All children can access Ebooks and Audio books for free using their Tameside Library membership card using Borrow Box. Please see eReading - Tameside MBC for more information.

Tree planting

We have been planting our new trees that we got from the Woodland Trust. They are very small at the moment but we will look after them and we are looking forward to watching them grow over the next few years.

Gymnastics

Today we focused on jumping in gymnastics. We used the springboard to help us practise star jumps, straddle jumps, pencil jumps, pike jumps and tuck jumps. We also worked in small groups to make a short sequence using jumps and rolls.

Super Stars

Congratulations to our stars Evie and Nasir. Evie works hard, she is kind to others and she makes us all laugh every day. You are truly a star Evie. Well done.

Nasir is trying really hard to work more independently in class- keep this up.

Our Good to be Green winners are Faye and Sophia.

Congratulations to our Gold and Bronze winners too!

A huge well done to the whole class for their hard work this week and for coming in earlier for revision sessions! We are very proud of you!
