Fun with Freddy Fit in Year 5!

Year 5 LOVED their session with Freddie Fit today!  They started with a Quiz, about healthy eating and healthy bodies.  He tested their knowledge of body parts and different types of food and their benefits.  The children used brilliant teamwork to decide on their answers!  The physical session was so much fun!  It has been a tricky week for Year 5, having to vacate their classroom every day for Year 6 to do their SATs, but this fun packed workout made it all worthwhile.  A massive thank you to Freddie Fit from all of Year 5!  Mrs Blomeley

Reading Ambassadors Display

Tameside Libraries set our Reading Ambassadors a task to create a genre display of books to persuade children to read a certain text type. They chose a fantasy theme which is books about magic, legendary creatures and faraway lands. The children put the display together themselves in the KS2 library and I think this will definitely encourage children to read these books.

Well done Ambassadors!

Anglo-Saxon Craft Making and Weaving in Year 5!

As well as baking, Year 5 enjoyed taking part in the Craft activities during our Anglo-Saxon Day on Monday!  They made some stunning pieces of jewellery and they surprised themselves with their new-found weaving skills!  Some children enjoyed weaving so much, they continued to do it at home!  Look out for our work in the Reception area, where the creations will be on display for all to see!   Mrs Blomeley

Anglo-Saxon Baking in Year 5!

As part of their Anglo-Saxon activities, all of the Year 5 children spent time with Mrs Hallam this morning to bake Honey, Oat and Spices cakes, a recipe form the Anglo-Saxon days.  Later on, the class ate their cakes, whilst listening to riddles and stories, just like they would have done in a mead-hall back in the era.  Mrs Hallam praised all of the children for their culinary skills and their impeccable behaviour during their baking time.  Well done to everyone - we are very proud of you!  Mrs Blomeley and Mrs Hallam.

KATE STONEHEWER CUP RUNNERS UP!

A huge congratulations to our Year 5 and 6 girls' football team who were runners up in the Kate Stonehewer Cup! The girls had a very tough final against Arundale Primary School which finished 2-1 to Arundale. The girls showed great teamwork and really pulled together, playing with confidence and determination throughout! We are so proud of them for their efforts!

It has been fantastic to see so many girls playing football and inspiring others to want to take part next year. Well done girls!!

More Marathon Sessions in Year 5!

Year 5 braved the heat this week to continue with their mission to complete 30 minutes of running for the TCS Mini Marathon!  Such enthusiasm from everyone, although it did get tough towards the end!  Great effort Year 5!  Mrs Blomeley

Year 5 Break the Rules Day!

Year 5 enjoyed "breaking the rules" on Friday! They had gone to great lengths to look different in some way!  Own clothes, various hats, different coloured hair and a wonderful array of tattoos were all displayed!  I'm happy to say that no rules were broken within the classroom!  The children were perfectly behaved as always!  A massive thank you to all the parents who went to a lot of trouble to make this day so successful!  Mrs Blomeley
