World Book Day Events

This week we celebrate World Book day on Thursday. During the week, we have lots of fun reading and book events taking place. Each class will have story time swaps where a different adult from the school will come to read them a story. Each class will make books to be displayed in their library making every child an author!. On Thursday Years 4-6 will take part in a football themed reading quiz. All children may bring in their favourite books, comics or magazines to read on Thursday. On Friday you may choose to dress up as your favourite character- I can't wait to see who you come as.

Year 4

Welcome back after the holidays.

Our topic for the Spring Term is:  What was life like for the Tudors? Here, the children will be fully immersed into the Tudor time period. They will be creating a class book about the Tudors for World Book Day,  studying the Tudor monarchy, William Shakespeare, Tudor explorers and looking at their diet and cooking up a Tudor pottage. Alongside the Tudors, Year 4 will be finding out about teeth and how their digestive systems work and joining in British Science Week activities. What a fully packed 5 weeks we will have!

Just a reminder:

My Lighthouse

To finish off our mysteries topic and combine our science, electricity topic, the children made lighthouses today. They used their scientific knowledge to make a complete circuit and experimented with switches to turn the lighthouse on and off. You must agree they are all fabulous. Well done Year 4.

Marvellous Merits

A massive congratulations to all of the Year 4 children who gained an award today. They've worked ever so hard to finish off the term and I'm immensely proud of all their determination. I hope they all have a fabulous half term holidays and are looking forward to our Tudor and digestion topics when they return.

International day of women and girls in science

Today Year 6 presented an assembly about different women and girls who have made a great impact in the world of science. We discussed how primatologist Dr Jane Goodall has worked tirelessy to rehome chimpanzees who have lost their habitats for various reasons. We explored how Nobel Prize winner Marie Curie discovered new elements called radium and radioactivity.

Peaceful Poses

Year 4 have been been working hard this half term perfecting their yoga poses. I've so impressed by their flexibility, regulated breathing and their peaceful approach to our sessions. They have made great improvements and extended their repertoire. The coach assessed them today and was highly impressed by their mountain, chair, eagle, cobra, sun salutations, baby poses and many more. A special mention goes out to Ted, Flynn, Isla, Lottie, Millie and Orson for their dedication.

Ode To Joy in Year 4

Year 4 managed in 2 weeks to play Ode to Joy along Mrs O'Leary on the accordion. They were fantastic and definitely exceeded all expectations. Well done Year 4.

Conductors and Insulators

Year 4 had a fabulous time making their circuits work by testing objects to see if they were conductors or insulators. They found that scissors, sharpeners, purple pens, the plug, the door handle and even earrings and glasses all had areas that conducted electricity. Great experimenting Year 4.

E-Safety / Competition Winners

Our pupil leaders have chosen 6 brilliant winners of our E-Safety Competition. They looked at how social media affects mental health and what we can do to improve this. We had many entries from across school and it was very difficult to decide. Well done everyone.

Esther Sans Takeuchi

Year 4 have been researching a very inspirational electro scientist- Esther Sans Takeuchi. She is the most decorated female scientists in America with over 140 patents for her work in increasing the power of batteries used to power implantable cardiac defibrillators, saving thousands of lives every year.
