Bikeability Day 1

Day 1 of Bikeability was a great success for Year 5!  Starting with a bike and helmet assessment, the children then had to use their skills to signal and brake when asked by the instructors.  After lunch they donned their hi-vis vests and ventured out onto the roads to complete other tasks.  A heavy downpour of rain did mean they had to return to school early but they are all ready for Day 2, when they will return to the roads.  Brilliant work everyone!  Mrs Blomeley

Number Fun in Year 5 with Square and Cube Numbers!

Year 5 enjoyed using squares and cubes last week to identify and prove which numbers are squared and which are cubed!  It helped them to understand, for example, that 5 x 5 is 25, by proving this practically.  The children worked just as hard with cube numbers and even spent some of their lunchtime to try and achieve 10 x 10 x 10 to make 1,0000.  Amazing work everyone!  Mrs Blomeley

Year 5 and 6 Girls’ Futsal Competition

Our Year 5 and 6 girls enjoyed their Futsal competition on Friday where they played against Manchester Road, St John's and each other. They showed some great skills and teamwork throughout. The girls showed some fantastic dance moves on the side lines to encourage each other on, even the parents joined in with the dance moves too!

Equal Access Award

On Friday, we were awarded the Equal Access Award by the FA for ensuring our school has the same opportunities for boys and girls in football. Well done to Greenside and Manchester Road who also picked up the same award.

Poetry performance

Yesterday Year 3 performed a poem to the whole school. We read a poem based on Spike Milligan's famous poem called 'On the Ning nang nong'

Our poem links to our topic and was called 'On the Stone Age hill'

Young Ambassadors

Here are our Young Ambassadors for this school year! Their role is to help promote sport and PE across school. They have already been very busy in KS1 running lots of diffferent games at lunch time. They completed their training last week and got to meet GB sprinter, Andy Robertson who was a Young Ambassador when he was at school.

We cannot wait to see their ideas in action!

Game Changers

Here are our Game Changers for this school year! Their role is to help ensure equal access in sport for girls and boys, especially in football.

They attended training last week and already have so many ideas for things we can do at school. The Game Changers look very smart in their new hoodies!

We cannot wait to see the impact they have across school in ensuring equal access in sport.

No Pens Day 2024

Next week on Wednesday 27th November the whole school will take part in No Pens Day. This is a day to recognise that there are many different ways to communicate and not all people find talking and understanding words easy. Communication is vital for young people to thrive and difficulties in this can make children feel sad and isolated. During No Pens Day we will look at alternative ways to communicate like using gestures, facial expressions, codes and sign language. It will also be a fun way to practise our oracy and speaking and listening skills which is so important.
