Year 5 explore: How do we know the Earth is a sphere?

:To begin their new Science Topic - Earth and Space - Year 5 went out to the playground yesterday when I asked the question: "What shape is the Earth?"  What did they see?  What did it look  like? What shape did they say? The conclusion was that they couldn't really say for sure, although most children think the Earth is spherical.  The class followed this up with an activity about the Flat Earth Theory versus the Spherical Body Theory.  They found more evidence that the Earth is a sphere, but, amazingly, there are still people around the world who think the Earth is flat!

Special Visitor in Year 5!

Year 5 enjoyed listening to Imran about being a Muslim!  They were fascinated to learn about his Islamic faith and the five different prayer times each day.  Imran also explained more about his place of worship; the Mosque, where he prays to Allah.  All of Year 5 asked Imran some extremely sensible and interesting questions.  I was very proud of them and I'm sure Imran was impressed too!  Mrs Blomeley

Why should the world's rainforests matter to all of us?

Our new topic in Year 5 will stretch our geographical skills, as we learn about the importance of rainforests to our planet.  This will lead us into the ongoing debate about Climate Change, where we will learn more about Greta Thunberg and her efforts to save our planet.   Find our Topic Information and Home Learning Challenge Grid below.

Urban Extreme Dance Fest

Last half term, Broadbent Fold loved taking part in the Urban Extreme Dance Fest and came away with a trophy for team spirit. We were really proud of everyone who took part; they encouraged and supported everyone in their own team and also cheered on other schools too. A big thank you to our dance coach Zoe for helping us with our routine and a special well done to Lottie who represented our school in a dance off.

A letter from HRH King Charles III

During the first half term, Year 6 wrote a letter to King Charles III as part of their learning about the royal monarchs. This week we received a very special reply from the Palace which we are delighted with. This is very special and will be framed in school for others to read.

Well done Year 6!

House Team Winners - Ruby!

Ruby have won the House Team Points for autumn term. Well done Ruby - you have been so impressive all term and have worked incredibly hard to achieve your rewards. On Friday 13th January, you will receive a special non-uniform day for your efforts. Good luck to the other teams this term - you can do it!

Amazing Authors in Year 5!

Year 5 enjoyed reading their Spy Narrative stories to some of the Year 3 children last week!  Year 5 had worked hard to create their spy and villain descriptions, as well as enticing the reader in to their atmospheric settings!  The feedback from Year 3 was pretty impressive!  Well done Year 5!  Mrs Blomeley
