Vibrations

We enjoyed our first Science lesson this half term where we learnt that sound is caused by vibrations. We did some practical activities where we could see the vibrations including seeing rice dance on a drum and our class favourite, making the water jump up when we put the tuning forks into a bowl of water. We also went on a sound walk of the school to see what sounds we could hear and identify what was vibrating. We measured the volume of the sound using a data logger so that we could compare the volume across school in decibels.

Measuring area

This week in Maths, we have been looking at measuring area. We started measuring area by using sticky notes and small squares. We discussed how they couldn't overlap, had to be the same size and have no gaps for it to be accurate.

Can you hear me all the way around the world?

This half term, our topic in Year 4 is 'Can you hear me all the way around the world?' where we will be learning all about sound and different countries around the world. We will also be taking part in a project to compose some music about a colour with the English National Opera.

Please see the attached topic web for more information about what your child will be learning this half term.

Hedgehog competition posters

As part of their well-being time, Year 4 enjoyed designing these posters as part of the BHPS competition #RememberHedgehogs this November. Their campaign reminds us to:

Stop - Do you need to have a bonfire this year? can you attend a community event, or mark the occasion in a different, more wildlife-friendly way?

Move - If you do decide to have a bonfire, build it on the day you plan to light it. Move all the materials to a new site of they've been piled up overnight as hedgehogs may be nesting inside.

DT Mosaic Tiles

Year 4 have enjoyed their DT project this half term where they were tasked with researching, designing and making a Roman mosaic tile out of clay, that was 10cm x 10cm in size. The mosaic tiles then had to all fit together to make a class mosaic. They have done a fantastic job! Whose design do you like best?

Simon Hunt book reading

We have really enjoyed Simon Hunt reading his story 'Billy the bottom burping pirate' today. His book was very funny and quite disgusting. We enjoyed hearing Simon's stories too.

Poster Competition

The Reading Ambassadors have set a challenge for over half term. please see the attached details for how to create a poster for our library. Tameside Library would like our winning entries to put on their social media.

We will judge our winners on the first Friday back- 8th November

Black history visitor

Year 3 and 4 loved their visit today from our school governor Agnes. She taught us all about how babies are named after the day of the week they are born on in Ghana. We got to role play the naming ceremony and everyone found out what their name would be based on the day they were born.
