Swimming Gala

Well done to our year 5 and 6s who represented Broadbent Fold in the Tameside Swimming Gala. Pupils swam so fast and we even had a couple of 1st places! We came 6th overall and the pupils were a great team supporting and cheering each other on. We are very proud.

Internet Matters

Children talk about ways to keep safe online through e-safety lessons. At home, children can increase their knowledge further by using the APP Internet Matters.

Internet Matters’ is an app designed to help parents talk about online safety issues with their children, and to ensure that they make smart choices to stay safe online.

The split-screen collaborative app helps them think about what they would do if they were faced with different situations online; from cyberbullying to sharing content with someone they don’t know

Living and non-living?

In Science today, we got into small groups and we used a Venn diagram to discuss and sort some living and non-living things. The children discussed each of the pictures / things and put them where they thought they belonged. We then discussed as a class some items that the children place in the middle and gave explanations as to why it was living or not living and came to final conclusion. The children decided that a living thing eats, drinks, moves and reproduces. We then discussed how we know humans are alive and I introduced the children to MRSGREN and what this acronym stands for.

Are we the same or different ?

Diversity week - Today the children had lot's of discussions and compared how they were all different. They talked about pets, hair colour, skin colour, favourite fruit, who they live with, who is in their family, what is their favourite weather, favourite colour, what is their hobby and what language they speak. They then drew a picture of themselves to show if they are the same or different. Every picture was different!

Jubilee Celebrations!

On the last day of term the whole school got together to sing the songs throughout the decades that they had been  practising each week!   Great fun was had by all as the children sung Doris Day's "Que Sera, Sera", Madonna's "Holiday" and many others, including their favourite "Staying Alive" by the Bee Gees!  They had a great celebration, dressed in their red, white and blue to commemorate HRH our Majesty the Queen's platinum Jubilee!

National Numeracy Day - Super Mathematicians!

On National Numeracy Day we looked at Maths throughout the school and chose a Super Mathematician of the Day from each class. Tiny, our White Rose Maths mascot, helped to present the certificates!  Well done to everyone!  Tiny will be visiting each classroom for the last Half Term!  Mrs Blomeley

Can we save our Oceans?

This half term, year 2 will be exploring our topic question 'Can we save our Oceans?' We will be learning about the effects of plastic pollution on our oceans and the affacts of recycling. We will be taking a history trip to Formby beach where we will be exploring rock pool habitats / food chains (linked to science), we will be identify geographical features of the seaside and exploring how the seaside(s) have changed since the Victorian times. Keep up to date with our learning by keeping watch on our blog and Seesaw posts.
