Bog Baby Surprise

Well, what a surprise Year 1 have had this week! We came into the classroom to find a very strange looking creature inside a jar. Miss Wright told us that she recognised the creature, it was from a story called 'The Bog Baby'. We read the story and learnt about two little girls who went fishing in a forest before coming across this strange creature that was as soft as jelly. The story told us of how the girls took the creature home in a jar. They fed him cake crumbs, they took him for walks on a lead and made a lovely home for him in a bucket. But before long, he became sick.

Signs of Autumn

Year One have been learning all about autumn. We have watched a video that showed all of the wonderful things that happen during this season and discussed how the weather will begin to change as we move into winter. After lots of disucssion about the signs of autumn, we decided to go on an autumn walk. We went onto the field and looked around our environment to find any signs of autumn and discovered that the leaves had changed colour and lots had fallen from the trees. We went to find an autumn leaf and brought it back to the classroom.

Sharing Spanish - La Oruga Muy Hambrienta!

During recent Spanish sessions, Year 5 created their own versions of The Very Hungry Caterpillar (La Oruga Muy Habrienta).  Their Spanish books were designed with the younger children in mind and included colourful drawings with tactile front covers.  Year 5 were delighted to be able to visit Nursery, Reception and Year 1 to share their completed books and the feeling was mutual!  The younger children, some of them siblings of Year 5, were amazed by the books; they were absolutely enthralled by Year 5's story-telling!  What fantastic role models Year 5 are!  Well done everyone!  Mrs Blomele

Outdoor Creativity

Year One and Year Two have been feeling very creative and have decided to use the outdoors in their recent Art and Design lesson. The children designed a picture that they could create using only the materials that they could find outside. Year One based their pictures on their topic of 'The Three Little Pigs' and Year Two created a picture linked to their topic of 'The Seaside'. We then made a list and went outdoors to scavenge and find all of the materials that we needed.

FIFA World Cup Week

Wow, what a fantastic week Year One have had! We have really enjoyed being active and learning all about our country for the FIFA World Cup; Nigeria! All week we participated in a range of sports such as orienteering, cross country, Zumba and of course, our playground challenge for Soccer Aid. But not only have our bodies been busy this week, our brains have also been working hard as we spent the week learning all about Nigeria.

Sweets & Treats

Year One have had lots of fun designing and making alien biscuits after our very busy week. The children have worked extremely hard this week reading a range of real and nonsense words and to finish the week, we decided to make our own aliens out of biscuits and sweets. The children loved designing silly looking aliens but eating them during Golden Time was definitely the best part!

Daily Mile Challenge

Year One are having lots of fun completing our Daily Mile Challenge! Everyday we have been very excited to go out onto the field and complete our 12 laps and it has even sparked some healthy lifestyle conversations in the classroom. The children have enjoyed it so much that in Science, the children created their own healthy plates.

"Marbellous" Marble Run!

What a fantastic time everybody had at our family activity this week!  Staff and children are still talking about the fun they had in their attempts to make the most creative marble run. Quotes fom the childen included "It was a lot of trial and error but worth it in the end!"  "My favourite part was building the different components!"  "I thought today was awesome because everyone worked as a team with a smile."  Mrs Anson, our expert scientist, reported "My group showed great determination and ingenuity.

Bees

We have had a fantastic day at The Bee Centre! The amazing Bee Keepers talked to us about how bees work together to produce honey and live harmoniously in their hives. We tried real honey and explored the bee garden where we planted some spring bulbs. We used our experience to write instructions before going to play on the adventure park. KS1 behaved beautifully all day and we are so proud to hear the Centre praise the children of Broadbent Fold.

A Special Visit

What an exciting afternoon for Broadbent Fold it has been! We have had the special honour of meeting Beth Tweddle MBE, the european and world champion and Olympic gymnastic medalist. The children had the opportunity to learn about Beth and watch her at work in some exciting gymnastic videos before mind mapping some questions to ask her as she visited us in our classroom. The children loved listening to Beth sharing her experiences as a gymnast and asked lots of questions all about her training and practise.
