We loved learning all about Guy Fawkes and the Gunpowder Plot. We built a bonfire outside, discussed how to stay safe, made sparklers, 2D shape rocket pictures and we wrote some wonderful firework words.

We loved our Halloween week. We made pumpkin soup, pumpkin collages, dressed up and made skeleton pictures.

We had fun creating canvases with our family groups.

We had a fabulous time planning and preparing for Olaf's birthday. We had an even better time celebrating!

The children made cakes, sandwiches and banners. They wrote out cards and invitations, designed wrapping paper and wrapped their own presents.

We have had a brilliant afternoon creating bonfire pictures and making fireworks. The children have used wax crayons and a black paint wash to make wonderful bonfire scenes. We also used our junk modelling skills to make exciting and colourful fireworks. Have a lovely bonfire night and keep safe!

Science Club has got off to a flying start this year with some budding scientists in the group!  So far, two of our activities have involved forces and air resistance. We made our own rockets using card and straws and also raced balloon rockets!  We explored whether making the balloons larger increased their speed.  What do you think?    Mrs Blomeley and Miss Lewis

Year 5 travelled back in time to the Victorian age when they visited Quarry Bank Mill in Styal on 7th October.  Dressed in clothes of the Victorian period, the children arrived as apprentices and stepped right into a school lesson! Apart from writing and maths they were taught about some of the medical procedures of the time, such as bloodsucking leeches!  A visit to the mill, where they experienced the noisy machinery,  helped them to empathise with the poor children who worked there two hundred years ago.  We all enjoyed the day as you can see from this selection of photographs. 

Under the expert training of Mr O'Leary, Year 5 have worked hard to improve their Tag Rugby skills this term.  The children have shown great enthusiasm for this sport and demonstrated excellent team work.  Well done!

To celebrate the historical moment when Queen Elizabeth surpassed the reign of her great-great-grandmother Queen Victoria, Year 5 produced homework projects about the similarities and differences between the two queens.  The results were fantastic and included power point presentations, leaflets, hand written posters and even an imaginative race track which demonstrated the hurdles both Queens had encountered during their reigns. Some children added interesting artefacts to their presentations, such as newspapers, Victorian coins and a scrap book from the Victorian era.

In our topic lessons this half term, we have been getting very messy making paper mache hot air balloons. We began researching different balloon designs and then sketched our own before we started creating them.  We have finally finished them this week and they look fantastic!
