World Book Day

Although a little late due to snow, we have had a fabulous day sharing our love of books. Year 2 looked amazing in their costumes and we loved taking part in the Broadbent Fold Readathon!

Work to Bee proud of

We are enjoying learning all about Bees in year 2. We made our own hives, labelling each part to help us understand how a bee colony works as a team to make honey. We are super proud of our Bee home works which we have put on display around our classroom.

Look who came to visit!

Today we had the honour of meeting World Champion and Olympic medalist Beth Tweddle! We have been learning gymnastics with specialist sports coaches so it was fantastic to meet such an inspirational gymnast and have the opportunity to ask her lots of questions about her sport and training.

Goodbye Winter

We have had a fantastic half term exploring our topic of pirates! Today we celebrated Chinese New Year by making drums decorated with the sign of the Dog as it is the Year of the Dog. We also had a pyjama party because we reached 30 class compliments! We enjoyed eating popcorn whilst watching James and the Giant Peach.

Pirates

This half term we are learning all about Pirates. We have created fantastic Wanted posters for our homework, drew some amazing Pirate portraits and made Pirate hats. We are writing our very own pirate adventure stories after we read Peter Pan together as a class.

Merry Christmas!

The countdown to Christmas has been full of excitement in year 2. I was so proud of our wonderful nativity, all the children did an amazing job! During RE week we had a visit from Holy Trinity who told us more about the Christmas Story as well as a visit from Imran who talked about the Muslim faith. We've had Christmas dinner, christmas parties, Christmas crafts... We all definitely deserve a Christmas break! Merry Christmas and have a Happy New Year! Love Mrs Neary xx

We have the right to be the best we can be!

We have been learning all about our rights. In year 2 we have learnt article 29 which tells us we have the right to be the best we can be. We have been thinking about the things which make us proud. We are proud of our writing, maths, building, friendships, sports, helping our brothers and sisters and our one handed push-ups! We do things we are proud of every day because we always try to be the best we can be.

Fire! Fire!

We are learning about the Great Fire of London which started on Pudding Lane in a bakery. Many people believe the fire was caused by burning cakes! We used a traditional recipe to make currant cakes similar to those in 1666 (we did cheat a little and used self raising flour!). In maths we have been learning about measurement so the children were able to weigh their own ingredients following a recipe and using scales. The cakes were delicious!

Our trip to Jodrell Bank

We had an amazing time at Jodrell Bank learning more about our topic of space. We learnt more about the planets through smell, touch and sound and we played in the outside exhibits, using the whispering dishes to see how sound travels. Have a look at our pictures to see what we got up to!

Welcome to year 2

We have had a busy start to the year in year 2, starting with a star hunt around school! We've made planets after learning about the different textures and atmospheres and relaxed with a kS1 Harry Potter Yoga Session. I'm really excited about our learning journey this year.
