A very warm welcome to Year 5! We hope everyone has had a wonderful summer and is ready for an exciting year of learning, discovery and adventure.

Our first topic of the year is “Can you crack the code to become a spy?” The children have already been given their first secret mission after discovering a mysterious briefcase containing a coded message! But what could the message mean? And what secrets will they uncover along the way?

Throughout Autumn 1, the children will become secret agents themselves as they create their own spy and villain characters and use their imaginations to write an exciting spy adventure narrative. They will also take on the role of journalists, writing their own news report about a mysterious spy-related event.

Our learning won't stop there! In Geography, we will be exploring European countries and their major capital cities, while our practical learning will include Bikeability and an action-packed Spy Day, where the children will have the opportunity to put their spy skills to the test!

It is going to be a fantastic start to Year 5!

Homework (Thursdays)

Weekly homework task

There will be a weekly homework task set in your child’s homework book. Please complete this ready for every Thursday. We will go through the homework together as a class to review and consolidate learning.

Spellings

A spelling sheet will be handed out to your child every two weeks, which will be stuck in their homework book, to practice if they need to. A spelling test will be followed up on every second Thursday.

Reading

Please read a few times a week and record it in your child’s reading diary. An adult is required to sign it for acknowledgement.
