Scratch Coding

In Year 6 we have been exploring coding on Scratch to create Viking themed games. In our games we have coded sprites to catch falling objects to gain points. Points are also deducted if certain objects touch. We have learned how to create a timer and a score board.

We are looking forward to playing each others finished games next week.

Book Look

Thank you for all the families that joined us for our book look. We are very proud of our pupils and their hard work each day.

Insulators and Conductors

Year 4 had a fabulous time figuring out whether items in the classroom were electrical conductors or electrical insulators. They made a list and were amazed at their findings. Great work Year 4.

New football kit

We were so excited when our new football kit was delivered today and cannot wait to wear it for our future matches. Thank you to ESFA for donating it to our school.

Dodgeball Final

Last week, some of our Year 5 and 6 pupils took part in the dodgeball finals involving the top 10 teams in Tameside. We came 5th in our group playing games against Buckton Vale, Dowson, Aldwyn and Greenside. They won, drew and lost some games but showed great determination throughout and real improvement since the last competition. Well done everyone, you did Broadbent Fold proud!

Heart pumps and blood soup

Today we have found out about the four chambers of the heart and we worked together to make a valve to stop the blood from going in the wrong direction, just like in a human heart.

We then learned the components of blood and make some blood soup. The jelly represented the red blood cells, the marshmallows were the white blood cells, the rice was the platelets and the orange juice was the plasma.

What a fun, interactive afternoon.

Maths - measuring height using measuring tape

The children used measuring tape to measure their height, and put themselves into height order. We found that it was easier to put ourselves in height order using the data that was written down (in cm) rather than try to organise our height from standing next to each other and comparing.

National Storytelling Week

This week is National Storytelling Week and year 6 joined a webinar with a panel of gaming experts, players and designers to listen to how they use storytelling and world building in their roles. It was very interesting and has inspired some pupils to think about a career in game making.
