Year 5's boys and girls had a bumper award Assembly on Friday with lots of sports awards! The medals, trophies and certificates included Football, Swimming, Gymnastics, Kick Boxing and Rugby. Year 5 demonstrated how their commitment to sport extends beyond school and we are immensely proud of their achievements! Well done! Mrs Blomeley

Year 5 have been immersing themselves into their new topic this term - Anglo Saxons! A homework project resulted in some fanatastic examples of Anglo Saxon houses, using some of the natural materials that would have been used during Anglo Saxon times. They have also started to learn the wonderful skill of weaving and are enjoying seeing the results of their efforts grow! Look out for our next task - Anglo Saxon settlements! Mrs Blomeley.

A mysterious parcel arrived containing, amongst other things, a faded football, a variety of shells and pebbles, a cryptic message in a bottle and a letter from “Michael” asking for advice. Year 5 have already discovered that the story is none other than Michael Morpurgo’s Kensuke’s Kingdom and they are waiting for the story to unfold to identify the contents of the box ..... Year 5 finished off this half term with a fantastic Spanish assembly! They shared some of the information they've discovered during their "Exploring Europe" topic and showcased their fantastic Spanish speaking skills, thanks to Senora Buckley. The assembly included singing, Flamenco dancing, Spanish weather reports and famous Spanish people. Year 5 re-enacted the famous festival 'La Tomatina' which ended with them throwing 'tomatoes' at each other and into the audience! Great fun!

This half term, following tuition from our computer expert, Miss Truelove, Year 5 have been creating their own maths games to share with some younger children in the school. Siblings and friends took on the challenge to complete the games and gave feedback later. They even gave ideas for improvement! Mostly they enjoyed playing the games that had been created for them and Year 5 enjoyed showing off their skills! Mrs Blomeley

Year 5 have signed up to take part in an exciting new science project with the BBC called TERRIFIC SCIENTIFIC! Over the coming months there will be a series of investigations at schools across the UK - this week was The Super Taste Test! The results were very interesting - by counting the number of fungiform papillae we discovered that six of the class are Supertasters! We are looking forward to the next investigation! Mrs Blomeley

Year 5's new topic Exploring Europe has got off to a great start! Yesterday Miss Laitl from Key Stage 1 gave a presentation on her homeland, Poland. We found out about the population, the different districts within the country and that the diverse landscapes in Poland include mountains, beaches and even a desert! We discovered that Polish buildings are colourful and there are lots of beautiful churches there. We had a go at speaking in Polish and learnt about Polish currency which is called Zloty; Miss Leitl brought some in for us to look at.

As part of Year 5's Spies topic, Friday 9th December was the long awaited Spy Day! All the children came dressed as spies and entered the Spy Headquarters wiith a secret code! Spy moves, invisible writing and gadget making were just some of the missions they carried out. The Secret Agent in Key Stage 2 was revealed and the afternoon was spent watching the action packed Spy film Stormbreaker. It was a fabulous day, enjoyed by all. Mrs Blomeley.
