Year 2 Blog

This week's Superstars are...

Well done to this week's Year 2 award winners. Year 2 got a special award: for their hard work and determination in preparation for the SAT's tests. Congratulations to those children who have all achieved awards outside of school for their excellent efforts in swimming and gymnastics. Keep up the hard work everybody!

Poet Matt Goodfellow returns to BBF

Year 2 enjoyed their poetry workshop with our visiting author, Matt Goodfellow! The class worked hard to do some "Rebel Writing" by producing their own poems!  Matt spoke about different dialects and inspired all the children to be creative and use the ideas that they already have and turn it into poetry.

Litter picking at Gorse Hall

The Eco Leaders did a fantastic job when they went litter picking at Gorse Hall.  With the help of Mr Pickles from the Friends of Gorse Hall and Mr Moon from Tameside Rotary and we collected 4 big bags full of litter.  All of the children worked really hard even in the pouring rain.  Well done everyone for helping to improve our local environment which will help our wildlife to grow and thrive.

Matt Goodfellow returns to BBF!

On Thursday 27th April we will be joined by Manchester based poet Matt Goodfellow. He will perform some of his poems in assembly and during poetry workshops throughout the day. The children thoroughly enjoyed working with him last year and I am sure they will create some amazing poetry with him again next week.

Please ask your child to share their poetry with you on Thursday.

Can you survive in the woods?

This half term we are exploring the question Can you survive in the woods? We will be exploring a variety of traditional fairy tales, in particular Little Red Riding Hood. The children will then write their own twisted version of Little Red Riding Hood from the Wolf’s point of view. We will be designing waterproof shelters, building and evaluating their effectiveness. We will also be going on a nature walk in our local community (Gorse Hall) and printing with leaves to create decorative patterns and works of art that capture the beauty of nature.
