Flag making

Today in forest school the children have been playing the sparrow hawk game, making bows and arrows and using clay. They also used the hapazome technique to colour cloth with leaves and berries to make their own flags.

Ashton Mosque visit

Today, Year 1 and Year 2 visited Ashton Mosque as part of our RE topic (Year 2) ‘Who are Muslims and what do they believe? The children learnt all about the Islamic faith and took part in activities including greeting in Arabic, removing their shoes when entering the Mosque, trying on head scarfs and designing a prayer mat. The children were already very knowledgeable about Islam. The children also got to see Mosques from around the world and see / learn about what happens in a Mosque. Thank you to our parent helpers who supported us on our visit!

London's Burning!

As part of our creative topic this half term 'Why was London burning?' Year 2 talked about how The Great Fire of London spread so quickly during the GFoL because houses were made of wood. We then burnt some houses to show how quickly fire can spread. We also made wooden houses using wattle and daub (sticks and clay) to create London city, the children then re-enacted putting out the fires in a team using a bucket of water. We have a fabulous morning outside and the children thoroughly enjoyed it.

Dance

We started today Dance session off with a discussion about what we already know about The Great Fire of London. The children were already very knowledgeable and have been comprehending our class text well. We then discussed the importance of warming up and dancing using counts of 8. We then began our warm up travelling through the narrow streets of Pudding Lane using walking, changing direction, skipping and jogging.

Year 2 Visit Jodrell Bank.

Year 2 had the pleasure of visiting Jodrell Bank as a conclusion to their Space Theme work, which they have worked incredibly hard on. Pupils learned about the importance of the sun and the moon. They explored the site and observed many experiments. This created awe and wonder for our little scientists. Did you know - If you stand on our playground, you can see Jodrell Bank from our school!
