This week we have been learning all about food from around the world. We made yummy pizzas which we then ate. They were delicious. All the children had a great time choosing thier toppings and talking about Italian food.
Our new topic for this half term is "Food Glorious Food". We will learning about foods from around the world, where food comes from, how food has changed over the years and we will be making lots of different foods and tasting lots of yummy foods too. Its going to be an exciting and delicious half term.

Year 1 have been to Holy Trinity church today. We watched a play all about the Christmas story. We really enjoyed it especially all the puppets and finding carrots for the camels. a Big Thank You to everybody at the church for inviting us.

Year 1 have been learning about Hinduism. We've had a Diwali day where we have made Diva Lamps, Rangoli patterns and paper lanterns.
Year 1 had an amazing time during Woodlands Week. We made dens, went on a Boggart hunt, created large natural art work and visited Lyme Park.

Welcome to Year 1. Mrs Cowling and the children in Year 1 are making a magical start to the year. Look out for witches and wizards appearing in your home.

During this half term our creative curriculum topic is Witches and Wizards During this half term we will be reading many stories involving witches or wizards, including Winnie the Witch, The Wizard and the Princess and The worst Witch. The children will be writing about witches and wizards, making graphs about witches’ pets, making their own potions, writing their own stories and painting pictures of witches and wizards. Our first half term is going to be lots of fun and very busy.
Each day children are involved in practical activities to support their learning which is all focused around our creative curriculum topic. The children are always working hard to improve their writing and maths skills. We cover many aspects of writing, such as recounts, lists, labels, stories, poems and information writing. In maths we work on learning numbers to 20, using addition and subtraction. We focus on number bonds and later in the year the 2's, 5's and 10's times tables. We also focus on 2D and 3D shapes and their properties and how to use different types of graphs.
