Year 5

Welcome to Year 5!    Our Spring Term question is "Why should the world's rainforests matter to all of us?"  This topic will cover many of the Geography objectives for Year 5, such as learning about the dufferent layers within a rainforest and investigating what is meant by biomes.  In Art we will study the famous French artist Henri Rousseau and create our own artwork based on his jungle paintings.  We will engage in the debates about Climate Change by discussing our thoughts on deforestation.  In computing. we have a coding workshop planned where the children will investigate wearable tech and imagine where the future will take us in this area. They create their own piece of wearable tech then light it up or make a noise when wearing it. Our class text is the award winning book by Katherine Rundell,  "The Explorer" and our work on Vocabulary Ninja will continue throughout the term.  Our Reading Genre challenge will also continue with  the introduction of some new genres.  PE days will be Wednesdays (Athletics) with the Sports Coach and on Fridays we will use our team building and problem solving skills to embark on Orienteering sessions.    This is going to be an amazing half term!
