Y6 Star of the week 7-7-23

Our Stars this week are Evan and Thomas.

Thomas is a kind, polite, hardworking young man who is definitely high school ready.

Evan has some impressive dance moves which he shared with us in our dance around the ages topic this half term.

Our Good to be Green winners are Seth and Lucy.

Congratulations to the 9 incredible children who achieved their Headteacher Award today- what a great accomplishment before moving on to high school.

Lacrosse in year 6

Ashton Lacrosse came in to work with year 6 today. We looked at techniques for scooping the ball using the 3s- stand, squat and scoop. We then played a fun game of Hungry Hippos. Finally we practised shooting a goal. A great session!

Y6 Star of the week 30-6-23

Congratulations to this weeks stars Sam and Alfie.

Sam's writing has gone from strenght to strenght this year and I was particularly impressed with his chocolate cake description which he wrote this week to persuade peopple to buy it.

Alfie worked collaboratively in our tansition workshop- he made a very convincing bully in our workshop!

This weeks Good to be Green stars are Maycie and Xander.

Year 6 Picnic

We loved our picnic today. We got to snack, chat, play games and have fun.

It was lovely for the whole school to be out together.

Y6 Poem Performance

Year 6 performed a poem by Bill Bilston in assembly today. We first looked at this poem when we did our Windrush topic and it explores refugees. The poem can be read in two directions and at first year 6 were shocked at how racist the poem seemed to be!

Please watch our poem on this link: Year 6 Performance Poetry - YouTube

They performed it fantastically today :)

Drama workshop

2 Boards and a Passion Theatre Company worked with year 6 today about their transition to secondary school. After a few warm up games, the children listed their fears and hopes for moving on. They then worked in groups to role play a short sketch about a worst case scenario of their first day. We had bullying, hard work, strict teachers, being late, forgetting homework and many more fears. After performing their sketches, year 6 played a game called 'yes but...' where they thought of solutions to all of their worst fears.
