Year 6 Blog

Rock and River

Watch out for our Year 6 blogs over the next two days. I hope to show the children challenging themselves in many different situations from raft building, canoeing, balance beams, orineteering, archery, abseiling, on the high ropes and trying to keep dry on the swamp romp or hitting the balloon on the leap of faith. I know they're all really excited and I do hope they manage to get some sleep tonight as they'll need their rest for the next two days.

Year 6

Welcome to Year 6 and to what will be a busy and eventful final year for our class at Broadbent Fold.  There are many things planned and much work to do but nothing is impossible for our year 6! Together we can achieve anything and everything! There is even a residential visit to Rock and River planned for the 21st and 22nd of September.  Please watch out for details of this to follow very soon!

Good Luck Year 6

Good luck Year 6 with your Key Stage 2 tests next week. We know how brilliant you all are, just go out there and show everyone else how  fabulous you are! We are very proud of all your achievement. Believe in yourselves, we know you can do it! All the best from everyone at Broadbent Fold.

Science Week - Sharing Open Spaces!

On the final day of Science Week, Year 5 and Year 6 chose to work together on "Open Spaces".  We made the short walk to Gorse Hall armed with black bags, string and cardboard to create their dens. Accompanied by myself, Mrs Austin, Mrs Gething and Mrs Brereton, the children thoroughly enjoyed the activity and the end results were fabulous!   More importantly we were all extremely impressed by their team spirit and hard work.  Well done to you all!  Mrs Blomeley

Debdale!!!

Friday 10th July found Year 6 on their annual activity day at Debdale Sailing Centre. The weather stayed fine and all the children enjoyed all the activities. The day finished off at school for a sleepover in the hall!!!

Design an Island!

As part of our "Treasure Island" topic, the children in Year 6 are going to design and create their very own Fantasy Islands!

SATs Week for Year 6!

What a busy week!

Well done to our fantastic Year 6 children.

You have all worked extremely hard this week and kept positive and focussed while sitting your SATs.

Your teachers couldn't be more proud of you all.

A HUGE thankyou to Layla's mum for the gorgeous celebration cake (see photos) with all our names on it!

Have a lovely, chilled weekend

Miss Lewis and Mrs Gething xx

Nature on Film

Have you seen the latest creatures to be roaming the classrooms of Broadbent Fold? Year 6 have been busy researching, writing and filming their own nature documentaries about endangered animals. A couple of particular class favourites are the giant panda and the sun bear.

How can we help these endangered animals to survive in the wild? We have written to Sir David Attenborough, using our best formal letter writing, to suggest an animal that we would like him to film next. Let's hope he listens and raises awareness of our furry friends!

Suspense and Spooks

The Year 6 children are having an exciting time writing spooky stories based on the The Highwayman - a narrative poem by Alfred Noyes. At first, the children developed their use of language through creating spooky imagery in poetry. They have built on this to write a range of story openers to grab the their reader's attention and have chosen the best ones to write their own narratives based on the Highwayman. The children have also written about our own in-class ghost, "The Phantom Pen Theif". Have you seen this mysterious spectre?
