Tiny's visit to Year 5!

Year 5 were lucky to welcome Tiny (the White Rose Maths mascot) to the classroom this week!  Under Tiny's watchful eyes, they learnt about the Power of 10, using Gattegno charts to help them multiply or divide by multiples of 10.  Mrs Blomeley

Space Poem Competition

World Space Week begins on 4th October and Thursday 6th October is National Poetry Day.

We are going to combine them together for our new competition for Y1-6.

I would like you to create a space themed poem. This could be about the planets, our solar system or maybe you want to make a poem about aliens.

Present your poem colourfully and you may win a prize in your class. Hand your completed poem to your teacher by Friday 14th October and the winners will be announced in assembly in the final week of the half term.

Good luck.

Miss Harvey

Year 5 - Bikeability Day 1

Year 5  started their Bikeability course today!   They are aiming to gain their Bikeability 1 and 2 awards and so far everything is going to plan!  They started with an "M" check this morning, followed by an assessment of their riding and signalling abilities.  After lunch they ventured out onto the local roads to learn some vital skills to ride safely.  The children are all ready for Day 2 tomorrow!  Mrs Blomeley

Primary Science Quality Mark 2022

Mini dens and blue beetles

Year 5 have been making mini dens and using clay to make creatures to live in their dens.  They also used tools safely to cut the wood and try out some whittling.  Everyone enjoyed playing the closer, closer  hide and seek game and finding the blue alder beetles.

Making Millions in Year 5!

Year 5 enjoyed "making millions" literally in our Maths session today. Using digit cards, they had to make either the highest value or lowest value, winning a golden bean if they won.  The class enjoyed this practical challenge, which covered the Year 5 objective of  "Read, write, order and compare numbers to at least 1,000, 000. "  Brilliand Maths Year 5!  Mrs Blomeley
