Year 1 visit Holy Trinity Church

Today we have been to visit Holy Trinity Church in Stalybridge. The children learnt all about the real story of Christmas. There were lots of different characters from the story, who told the children about the Christmas story. They met Mary, Joseph, a shepherd, a Roman Solider, a Wise Man and lots more. It was an amazing experience and I would like to thank everybody from the church for all their hard work. The children loved it.

Marvellous Maths Week!

Maths Creative Week was enjoyed by everyone!  Year 5 began the week by creating their own rhyme, based on cubed numbers!  They also did an investigation to help them understand the meaning of cubed numbers and used lots of multi links to make their own cubes!   Other classroom activities, such as making a pig pen with the largest possible area, really challenged Year 5's reasoning skills and helped their understanding of area and perimeter.

Gloop Glorious Gloop and Lava Lamp Laughter in Science Club!

Science Club members have been busy lately investigating scientific theories whilst making Gloop and Lava Lamps.  Firstly, we found out that Gloop is a non-Newtonian fluid.  It is a solution that behaves a little like a solid and a little like a liquid and seems to defy the laws of gravity.  You just need to mix Cornflour and water to make this substance and, although it is messy, it's a lot of fun!  The children were amazed by the actions they saw in their Lava lamps which, they learnt, were caused by hydrophobia!  .

The Happy Puzzle Company

Year 4 had a brilliant maths week! On Thursday, The Happy Puzzle Company came into school and the children had to use logic and reasoning to solve problems.

Year 4 Maths activities

What a fabulous maths week in Year 4 we had! We investigated whether the children were Leonardo di Vinci's Vitruvian Man, cracked codes and tried to solve Fibonacci's sequence.

Maths creative week

An exciting week in Year 3, we have been testing out our reasoning skills through maths puzzles, singing songs and different workshops. It's been a super maths week!

Maths Week

Year 1 and Year 2 have had a very exciting morning with the founder of "Number Fun", Dave Godfrey. Our whole school maths week started with a Key stage 1 workshop, where the childen sang songs, used large numicon pieces and tested out their reasoning skills. A super morning and well done everybody.

Diwali

We have been learning about Diwali. We have been making Rangoli patterns and lamps. We have been reading the story of Rama and Sita. We loved sampling the traditional food!

A busy week learning all about 2D and 3D shapes.

This week we have been learning all about 2D and 3D shapes. The children have been sorting shapes, learning about shape properties and making thier own 3D shapes. For homework the children will be going on a shape hunt around their home, so happy hunting everybody.

Fire service visit!

The fire service visited Year 2 this morning and talked to us about what firefighting is like today.  We compared it to firefighting in 1666 (the time of The Great Fire of London).  Elissa got to try on the special firefighting clothes which fitted perfectly!  We then all went outside to look at the fire engine equipment and we even got to blast the fire hose!
