Perfect Polish Day

Perfect Polish Day

We have had a fun filled Polish day and Year 3 have thoroughly enjoyed it. We started with Polish maths, we practised addition using Polish words for numbers. We also played number bingo game, in Polish of course!

We tasted some Polish food; smoked sausage, bread and chocolate covered marshmallow. It was delicious.

We learnt about Polish festival called Andrzejki (St Andrew's Day) celebrated in Poland at the end of November. It's a celebration full of magic, fortune telling and games. We had a Angrzejki party in Year 3. We took part in five different games: predicting what will happen in the future and drawing it into a Cristal ball, wishing well (we made a wish and threw Polish pennies into a ball of water), shoes predicting future (shoes put in a line one after another and the first shoes reaching the door the owner will have good luck) guessing future from melted wax poured through the whole of a key bow (as the hot wax drops into the water it hardens forming a peculiar shape- Miss Laitl prepared it for us at home), predicting what job will have in a future. It was so much fun!

Finally, we looked at Polish folk art and created our own flower designs.
