Key Stage 1-Phonics, Reading and Handwriting

Parent Information Open Evening

Thursday 6th October 3.15pm-4.15pm

We are holding a Phonics, Reading and Handwriting Information Evening on Thursday 6th October 3.15pm-4.15pm. 

The evening will provide:-

• simple advice on how to help your child with phonics at home. For Year 1 parents there will be information about the format of the phonics screening test which takes place for Year 1 children in June and how you can help prepare your child for this.  There will be a short introduction and then parents can examine resources and take away information about the different phases in phonics and how you can support your child. 
• our current school practice and approaches to teaching reading, including the development of comprehension skills
• an overview of our handwriting scheme
• end of year expectations for Year One and Year Two in English

There will also be an opportunity to speak to staff members from Key Stage 1 and ask any questions.  The meeting will be held in the hall and is an informal opportunity to learn more about how your child develops their learning of phonics, reading and handwriting.  This event is for parents/carers of children in Year 1 and Year 2. Children are welcome to join as they are able to show how the games and resources are used in the classroom.
