Fractions Game

We have been adding and subtracting mixed numbers in our fractions learning. Today we played Connect 4 to revise our knowledge and get 4 correct answers in a row.

Evolution Workshop part 2

We loved getting our hands on the fossils yesterday in our workshop. We became naturalists: classifying, measuring, sorting and counting the fossils in various ways. The megalodon tooth and mammoth hair were fascinating. We were not too sure about the coprolite- dinosaur poo!

Thank you so much to Mr Birchall and his son from Balestra Workshops for such a fun, informative day!

Evolution Workshop- part 1

What a jam-packed morning we have had in year 6. We have looked at the theory of evolution by natural selection and discussed how animals. including humans, have evolved. We played a game of 'survival of the fittest'. We revised the scientific names for part of the skeleton and discovered we could fir approximately 7 bean bags into a human skull. We took part in some circuit activities to look at how humans have stamina- which makes us different from apes.

We can't wait to be palaeontologists this afternoon exploring fossils.

English hook- can you piece together the clues?

This week year 6 had to use their investigative skills to piece together some clues presented to them about our next English unit of work. The clues included: binoculars, string, a fossil, sand, a map, a footprint and some leaves.

What do you think could have happened?

Broadbent Fold vs Gee Cross

Broadbent Fold's girls football team had a friendly football match against Gee Cross primary school. They showed great determination and never gave up ending the game 3-2 to Gee Cross. Kasia got player of the match for her fantastic goal keeping skills. Well done to everyone who braved the winter weather and took part.

Quicksticks Competition

Year 5 and 6 loved taking part in the quicksticks hockey competition on Wednesday night. Year 6 played Manchester Road and Cannon Burrows winning all of their games without conceeding any goals.

Year 5 lost to St George's 1-0 and drew against Cannon Burrows. Everyone showed great teamwork and some fantastic hockey skills. A special mention to Henry who got MVP for the Year 6 team and Kasia who got given a school games badge for passion. Well done to everyone that played.

Y6 Star of the week 25-11-22

Well done to Harriet and Thomas for being our stars this week.

Harriet has produced some fantastic work in science about how peppered moths have evolved.

Thomas has worked with enthusiasm, remembering and sharing key facts about evolution.

Seth and Daniel are our Good to be Green winners this week.

Survival of the fittest

As part of our evolution topic, Year 6 planned and carried out a fair and comparative test today to see which 'beak' would collect the most food and survive. The children were independent in choosing their equipment, method and ways to measure their activity.

Who survived and who didn't make it?
